ICBC “No Fault” or “Part 7″ Benefits

Anyone injured in a motor vehicle accident in British Columbia is entitled to benefits from ICBC in order to help them recover from and cope with the effects of their injuries, including funds to cover the cost of medical treatment such as physiotherapy and massage therapy, wage loss as a result of the accident, and loss of housekeeping capacity. These are often referred to as “Part 7” Benefits, because they are imposed under Part 7 of the Insurance (Vehicle) Regulation. They are available to essentially anyone injured in an accident, regardless of whether they are at fault for the accident, and are thus also sometimes referred to as “no fault” benefits. The benefits are meant to assist with the medical costs incurred for a claimant’s recovery, as well as financial difficulties suffered as a result of an accident.
